Forget golf and football – ferrets prove to be the new fundraising favourite

Ferrets, beer and curry aren’t common features of a typical Friday night out, but for the staff of PTS branches in Worcester, Malvern and Evesham, a combination of all three resulted in a whole lot of fun for over 70 customers, with an impressive £477 raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The fundraising bash took place at the Worcestershire County Cricket Club on 16th July and saw the furry friends, who are all members of the Heart of England Ferret Association (HEFA), compete in seven nail biting races. After a number of close contests, Bilbo the ferret and owner Kate Kirkland came in first to take home the top trophy. The event was sponsored by a number of PTS' leading suppliers including Honeywell, Purmo Radiators, Baxi Boilers and Polypipe.

Adam Hornberger from PTS Worcester was one of the organisers behind the event. He said: "The race was a fun evening for all and a unique way for us to raise money for the CF Trust, which is PTS' nominated charity of the year. It was a great atmosphere and I think everyone appreciated a nice cold beer and a curry! I would like to say a big thank you to all our customers that took part and the suppliers that sponsored us."

Martine Grainger from the CF Trust also came along to accept the funds raised on the evening. She added: "This is the first time I've ever seen a fundraising event quite like this, but there was a great turnout and a real effort was made by all to make it an enjoyable and successful evening for all. Every penny of the money raised will make a difference to the CF Trust so we are very grateful to PTS."
