Haverhill Plumber Receives £500 Donation Towards Charity Drive
17 May 2010
Robert Pratley of R Pratley Plumbing & Heating Ltd based in Haverhill, who’s getting on his bike to travel from London to Paris in aid of children’s charity Action Medical Research, has received £500 from his local branch of PTS (Plumbing Trade Supplies). Mr Pratley, who has been a PTS Haverhill customer for nine years, now has half of his fundraising target already secured.
Mr Pratley, who owns R Pratley Plumbing & Heating Ltd based in Newmarket, will be tackling the ultimate biking challenge on 21st July 2010. This is the second year running that he has joined over 750 other cyclists in the hope of raising £1,000 for the charity which is dedicated to improving the health of children and babies throughout the UK.
Douglas Pearl, Branch Manager of PTS Haverhill, said: "I've known Robert for a number of years, so we were more than happy to lend our support and make a real contribution to his fundraising efforts. Action Medical Research does vital work and relies entirely on donations to fund a range of research projects that address serious childhood conditions and improve the quality of life for children with disabilities. We wish the hundreds of cyclists all the best for July and hope they make it to Paris in record time!"
Mr Pratley, added: "PTS has helped me to achieve half of my target already which is a fantastic result for me but more importantly for Action Medical Research. Cycling from London to Paris is a huge challenge, but the importance of the work that the charity undertakes will continue to spur me on throughout the race. "The sponsorship will go towards the ‘Touching Tiny Lives' appeal which is raising funds to help reduce premature birth rates and improve the care of sick and vulnerable babies. For almost 60 years, the charity has been behind numerous breakthroughs such as the UK Polio vaccine, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, and more recently a state-of-the-art foetal heart rate monitor that could help save thousands of at-risk babies - therefore, the efforts of all 750 plus cyclists are for an incredibly worthy cause."I'm also doing some fund raising events in the run up to the London to Paris challenge as well. The first will be at The Red Lion pub in Brinkley on 12th June. The event will kick off at 4.30pm; there will be a BBQ, bouncy castle, face painting, auction and at least two live bands. Please come along and support us."
