PTS Turns The Next Generation Green

22 June 2009

PTS winners proudly show off their prizes.

The PTS renewable energy branch in Aylesford has been celebrating with six local school children today (Thursday 18th June) after running a competition to communicate the importance of going green.

PTS Aylesford challenged pupils to complete either a colouring competition for 5 to 7 year olds or a poster campaign for 8 to 10 year olds, for a chance to win the top prize of a solar thermal package for their school donated by Kingspan Solar. A whole host of other green prizes were also for the taking, therefore the influx of over 100 entries came as no surprise to judges.

Billie Nixon (6) of St Peter's C of E Primary School and Nathan Hedgeley (9) of North Borough Junior School both went home with their very own bike, while four runners-up received gifts including a solar powered toy and an ant farm.

Alan Ball, PTS Managing Director, said: "Six schools entered over 120 entries in total, so being on the judging panel was an incredibly difficult job. It was encouraging to see how young students are grasping the importance of renewable energy technology. This is just the start of our work with these schools. The branch is always here for advice or to hold talks and we will, of course, be working with the winning schools to install the solar thermal packages, courtesy of Kingspan Solar."

Cameron Holroyd, Commercial Director of Kingspan Solar, added: "We were delighted to be involved in a competition that educates the next generation about renewable energy and the importance of creating a sustainable future. We have donated the winning schools with a complete Kingspan solar package, including flat panel solar thermal collectors. These solar panels are specifically designed for Northern European climates and deliver cost-effective, low carbon renewable energy, whatever the weather condition. Not only will these solar packages help the winning schools meet their hot water demands, they will also significantly reduce carbon emissions along with energy costs."

Entries were judged by Alan Ball, PTS Managing Director, Andy Gribble, PTS Regional Managing Director and Cameron Holroyd, Commercial Director of Kingspan Solar. All entries are now on permanent display within the auditorium of PTS Aylesford.
