PTS Endorses Government Plans For Boiler Scrappage Scheme

11 December 2009

PTS Managing Director, Kelvin Stevens, backs the boiler scrappage scheme

Leading merchant PTS has warmly welcomed plans for a boiler scrappage scheme on Band G gas boilers, describing the proposals as “a major boost for installers.”

The details of the new scheme, announced today in the Chancellor of the Exchequer's Pre-Budget Report, include £400 cash back on the purchase price of any new high-efficiency boiler which replaces any old Band G boiler. The offer will be made on a first come first served basis for the first 125,000 applicants.

Kelvin Stevens, MD at PTS commented: "PTS has been at the forefront of supporting plans for a boiler scrappage scheme and we warmly welcome today's announcement. This scheme is likely to provide a major boost for the UK's heating industry, in particular its installer base."

He continued: "This is a win for everybody, manufacturers, distributors, installers, the Government, in terms of its climate change targets and, most importantly, homeowners who will be able to make significant savings on their domestic heating bills."

Kelvin says that many installers have suffered in the economic downturn, but that the new scheme should help. "Whilst the distress purchase market for new boilers has been maintained, the market for boiler replacement as part of a domestic refurbishment has inevitably suffered as householders have reined in their spending. Our hope is that this scheme will give homeowners the confidence to once more consider boiler replacement as part of a home refurbishment project."

Kelvin says the key to success for the new scheme will be simplicity. "Our hope is that the scheme will be administered in an installer-friendly manner. PTS will be providing installers with all the help and support they need throughout the process."
